first of all the tube should be a hollow one as a stethescope :P .smooth surface of the inner surface of the pipes helps in better reflection of sound in them

as sound doenot require any kind of smooth or rough surface.

yes it does....otherwise the reflection angle of sound will not be equal to the angle of incidence and it will bounce off the surface
