hey there!!
here is your answer

Conductors/wires have to be flexible and good conductors of electricity. ... Copper is the first choice since it has a lowelectrical resistance. That means that it will lose less power from one end to the other on a specific load, wire gauge and voltage.Aluminum is used in some cases where weight is a factor.

hope it helps : )

The first & foremost reason for using copper & aluminium wires for transmission of electric current is - both cu and al are good conductors of electricity. That is they don't offer much resistance to the flow of electricity.

Second reason is that both metals are very ductile rendering them to be drawn into thin wires .

Third reason is that the both metals care relatively cheap among the conducting metals.

Fourth reason is that they both can be coiled for transportation & sent over long distances for their use.

However, as Al does not possess sufficient strength to be used in high transmission lines, Al conductors are reinforced with steel wire to get the required strength for overhanging transmission lines.
