For most of the surfaces used in daily life, the friction coefficient is less than 1. Is it always necessary that the friction coefficient is less than 1?

For most of the surfaces in our daily life, Friction coefficient s less than 1 due to the designation of the Roads.

But it is not necessary that the Friction coefficient is always less than 1 because it depends upon the nature of the surface. For example, Between the surfaces of the glass it is about 1.0 and between the surfaces of Copper it is 1.6.

Also, it can increase if the pressure is made lower and the surface is polished which is free of the impurities, dusts etc.
