In ammonium ion the number of P,E and neutrons are given below :
Number of protons = 11
Number of electrons =10
Number of neutrons = 7
Explanation:
- In an ammonium ion (NH₄⁺) ion, there is one nitrogen atom and four hydrogen atoms.
- Nitrogen has an atomic number of 7 , and hydrogen has an atomic number of 1 , and so the total atomic number of the hydrogen will be 1⋅4=4 . So, there will be a total of 7+4=11 protons.
- Now, we know number of electrons are equal to protons therefore , it should also be 11 but due to positive charge it is reduced by 1 .So, it becomes 10 electrons .
- The neutrons are found by adding neutrons of nitrogen as hydrogen lacks neutrons .So, it is 7 in number .
