Zitkala Sa had been admitted to an English medium school. She belonged to native Indian culture. In her culture there was lots of freedom. She had grown up in that freedom. However, at the school everything was done in discipline that she did not like. She had to wear tight fitting clothes; she had to do everything on the ringing of bell; even her long hair was to be cut. In their culture long hair was venerated and considered auspicious. Short hair was worn either by cowards or mourners. She had been feeling pathetic at the school.
