Zitkala was a native american women who suffered oppression. She was forced to get her hair cut but she didn't give in, she fought even though she was overpowered in the end.
When her hair was cut, she felt like she lost her freedom and power. She felt like she is no longer the master of her own will, from now on she'll have to comply to the orders of her oppressors just like animals driven by a herder.
