For over a decade, farmers in the U.S. have been planting genetically modified crops. An example of one of these crops is corn that is resistant to weed-killer. This makes it so that no corn is lost due to contact with herbicide meant to kill weeds. While this is seen by many as a positive development, others see it as a cause for concern. What is one possible negative side effect of planting genetically modified

Growing Genetically Modified Foods can have many side effects :-

  1. Cross contamination of nearby plants with pollen from genetically modified crops could transfer certain genes from one plant type to another. Introducing genetic material from one plant to another may result in the introduction of allergenic material from one species into another.
  2. Genetically modified foods may have negative side effects on the environment these crops are often sprayed with powerful pesticides and herbicides, and are fertilized with chemical fertilizers. These chemicals then contaminate the environment by traveling through the air; they leach into the ground, where they end up in fresh-water sources.
  3. Insects could also develop resistance to the pesticides produced by genetically modified plants, making it more difficult to control infestation and insect damage rather than less difficult over time.

Hope it is helpful:)
