Given :   set A = {4, 10, x, 12, y, 20}, all the elements are positive integers greater than or equal to 4. Also, x  < y and x, y < 10 and the median of set A is 8.

To find : The value of x is 4.  A. Always  , B. Sometimes  , C. Never

Solution:

4 , 10 , x  , 12  , y , 20

all the elements are positive integers greater than or equal to 4

=> x , y ≥ 4

x  < y and x, y < 10

=> 4  ≤   x  <  y  <  10

arranging in ascending order

4 , x  ,  y  ,  10  , 12  , 20

Median = ( y + 10)/2  =  8

=> y + 10 = 16

=> y = 6

x < y

=> x  can be 4 or  5

Hence value of x = 4    - Sometimes  as it can be 5 as well

option B is correct
