Answer:

i) sodium atom

number of electrons = number of protons = 11

number of neutrons = 12

ii) sodium ion

number of electrons = 10

number of protons = 11

number of neutrons = 12

Answer:

No. of protons = No. of electrons (if atom is electrically neutral) = Atomic no.

No. of neutrons = Mass no.  -  Atomic no.

i) For Sodium atom, No. of protons = No.of electrons = 11

Also, no. of neutrons = Mass no.  -  Atomic no. = 23 - 11 = 12

ii) Sodium ion has lost 1 electron to become electrically positive.

For Sodium ion, No.of protons = Atomic no. = 11

No. of neutrons = Mass no.  -  Atomic no. = 23 - 11 = 12

No. of electrons = No. of protons - 1 = Atomic no. - 1 (since Na^{+} has lost 1 electron) = 10
