Step-by-step explanation:

First term =a=3/2

Commom difference=d=difference between 2nd and1st term

d=1/2-3/2

d=1-3/2=-2/2=-1

Given,

A term in AP 3/2, 1/2, -1/2, -3/2...

To find,

The first term (a) and the common difference (d).

Solution,

The first term ( a) of the given Arithmetic Progression is 3/2.

  • If b1, b2 ,b3, b4 are in Arithmetic Progression  the common difference is calculated by b2-b1, b3-b2,  b4-b3.
  • Therefore, the common difference of the  Arithmetic Progression 3/2, 1/2, -1/2, -3/2... is-

⇒   1/2 -(3/2) = -1,   -1/2 -(1/2) = -1

Hence, the common difference (d) of the given Arithmetic Progression is -1.
