$d = b - a$

where :-

• b = second term of AP
• a = first term of AP

SOLUTION :

In the given A.P => -5,-1,3,7

First term = -5

Second term = -1

we will find common difference by using the formula :-

$⟹d = b - a$

Now put , b = -1 and a = -5

$⟹d = - 1- ( - 5)$

$⟹d = - 1 + 5$

$⟹d = 5 - 1$

$⟹d = 4$

ANSWER :

First term = -5

Common difference = 4
