For the circuit shown in below Figure, determine
(a) the battery voltage V,
(b) the total resistance of the circuit, and
(c) the values of resistance of resistors R1, R2 and R3.
Given that the p.d.’s across R1, R2 and R3 are 5 V, 2 V and 6 V respectively.

a) the battery Voltage will be equal to the sum of all the voltages i.e V1 + V2 + V3 = V

Hence Voltage will be

5 V + 2V + 6V = 13 V

b) In order to find total resistance ..we will need to find R1 R2 and R3

R1 = V1 / 4 current in all the cases will be equal to

R2 = V2 /4 4A ...since R1 R2 and R3 are connected

R3= V3 / 4 in series

V1 = 5V

V2 = 2V

V3 = 6V

R1 = 5 / 4 = 1.25

R2 = 2 /4 = 0.5

R3 = 6 /4 = 1.5

Hence equivalent resistance will be sum of

R1 + R2 + R3 = 1.25 + 0.5 + 1.5 = 3.25

c) Already solved
