Solution!!

11 + 2x = 5x - 1

Move the variable to left hand side and change its sign.

11 + 2x - 5x = -1

Move the constant to right hand side and change its sign.

2x - 5x = -1 - 11

Collect the like terms.

-3x = -1 - 11

Calculate the difference.

-3x = -12

Divide both sides of the equation by -3.

x = 4

Verification!!

11 + 2x = 5x - 1

Taking LHS,

= 11 + 2x

= 11 + 2(4)

= 11 + 8

= 19

Taking RHS,

= 5x - 1

= 5(4) - 1

= 20 - 1

= 19

LHS = RHS

Hence, verified.
