It is as this point where the story focuses on the ghost and the insight into his mind. The ghost of the story was amusing as well as pathetic because the tries too hard to scare people and was offended if people won't get scared of him. Since the time has changed he was not able to celebrate his performance and could not replicate his former success.
He believed that no ghost in the history of supernatural entities had been treated in such an unfair manner. His plans of taking revenge were all not able to take place because the human beings were always two steps ahead in beating him. The story then evokes the compassion and sympathy towards the ghost because he seems more like a childish prankster than a ghost because all of this efforts to scare people went in vain.
