Mean of the class interval = 13.5

Given:

  • Class interval: 1-4   4-9   9-16   16-27
  • Frequency:       6     12     26      20

To find:

       Mean of the class interval.

Explanation:

Find the Mid value of class interval : 1-4      4-9      9-16      16-27

                                  Mid value (X)  : 2.5     6.5       12.5       21.5

                                  Frequency(F)  :  6        12        26         20

        Mid value (X) ×  Frequency(F) :  15       78        325      430

                                                 ∑ (F) : 6 + 12 + 26 + 20 = 64

                                          ∑ (X) × (F) : 15 + 78 + 325 + 430 = 848

Mean of the class interval = \frac{summation \ of\  (X) (F)}{summation \ of \ (F)}

                                           = \frac{848}{64} = 13.5
