The equation for formation of HCl is :
H₂(g) + Cl₂(g) — > 2HCl (g)
The mole ratio of Hydrogen to Chlorine to Hydrogen Chloride is :
1 : 1 : 2
The moles of HCl formed is :
Molar mass of HCl = 35.5 + 1 = 36.5g/mol
Moles = mass /molar mass
3.65 / 36.5 = 0.1 moles
Moles of Hydrogen and Chlorine gas is :
0.1/2 = 0.05 moles
Molar gas volume at NTP is :
22.4 litres
22.4 × 1000 = 22400 Cm³
0.05 × 22400 = 1120cm³
The hydrogen and Chlorine gas have the same volume and the volume is 1120cm³.
