Solution:

Geometric sequence is a sequence of numbers in which the ratio between consecutive terms is constant and called the common ratio.

4 , 12 , 36 , 108 , ...

a = 4

r = 12/4  = 3

Sₙ = a(rⁿ - 1)/(r - 1)

n = 5

=> S₅ = 4( 3⁵  - 1)/(3 - 1)

=> S₅ = 2( 243 - 1)

=> S₅ = 2( 242)

=> S₅ = 484

Sum of  the first 5 terms of 4, 12, 36, 108, ....

is 484
