During the Napoleonic wars, new machines for harvesting were introduced. There was an increase in the prices of food grains and shortage of manpower due to wars. So the rich farmers expanded their land of cultivation and bought these costly new reaper machines.
The machines were too costly for the poor farmers, so they obtained loans from bank, but were unable to pay the increasing debt. So they deserted their farms and started looking for jobs, which was also not available due to the introduction of the machines.
When the wars came to an end, the situation was even bad. The demand for food grains decreased and return of the soldiers further increased the unemployment. So the poor farmers were left, without job and food.
