For the reaction PCI5 ----> PCI3+Cl2 , the degree of dissociation varies inversely as the square root of pressure of the system. Supposing at constant temperature, If the volume is increased 16 times the intial volume, the degree of dissociation for this reaction will
become ?
(1) 4 times (2) 1/4 times (3) 2 times (4) 1/2 times

Answer:

1= 4 times

Explanation:

It is known that degree of dissociation is varies inversely to the square root of pressure, thus

d = K / root of pressure

Pressure is inversely related to the volume

P= K/V

d = K/ root (k/v)

d = Root K*V

The volume is increased to 16 that's why,

d = root K*16

d = 4* root KV
