Answer:

In geology, rock (or stone) is the naturally occurring solid mass or aggregate of the minerals or mineraloid matter. It is categorized by minerals included, its chemical composition, and way in which it is formed. Rocks form Earth's outer solid layer, the crust, and most of it interior, except for liquid outer core and pockets of magma in asthenosphere.

Rocks are usually grouped into the three main groups: igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks. Igneous rocks are also  formed when magma cools in Earth's crust, or lava cools on ground surface or the seabed. Sedimentary rocks are formed by the diagenesis and lithification of sediments, which in turn are formed by weathering, transport, and deposition of the existing rocks. Metamorphic rocks are formed when existing rocks are subjected to such high pressures and the temperatures that they are transformed without significant melting. This occurs, for example, when the continental plates collide.
