For today’s task you are being asked to solve a problem for Carlos. Read the problem and then come up with a process by which you will determine the largest item that will fit in each box.

To receive credit for completing this activity you must show ALL your work for all three boxes.

SO MY MATH TEACHER MADE IT CLEAR THAT IT FITS IN ONE OF THE BOXES I NEED HELP ON FIGURING OUT WHICH ONE AND HOW PLEASE SHOW THE WORK I NEED HELP S.T.A.T

The umbrella will fit in the box if its length (37.5 in.) is shorter than the length of the diagonal of the box.

For box 1:

The formula for the diagonal of a rectangular prism (where its dimensions are a by b by c) is √(a² + b² + c²)

Plugging in the dimensions:

√22² + 22² + 22²

≈ 38.11 in.

As 38.11 > 37.5, box 1 is large enough to fit the umbrella.

Now just showing my calculations for box 2 and 3:

For box 2:

√27² +  27² + 14²

≈40.67 in.

Again, box 2 is also large enough for the umbrella.

And finally, box 3:

√14² + 22² + 27²

≈37.54 in.

And though it will be a tight fit, box 3 can also fit Carlos' umbrella!

In conclusion, all 3 boxes will fit the umbrella.
