Question:

For what value of k, -2 is a zero of a polynomial 3x² + 4x + 2k ?

Solution:

As -2 is the zero of the polynomial 3x² + 4x + 2k, then we can put x = -2 and whole polynomial equal to 0.

3x² + 4x + 2k = 0

3(-2)² + 4(-2) + 2k = 0

3 * 4 - 8 + 2k = 0

12 - 8 + 2k = 0

4 + 2k = 0

2k = -4

k = -4/2

k = -2

The value of k = 2 then only -2 can be zero of a polynomial.
