d= b^2-4 ac

= (-6)^2-4×k×-2

= 36+8k

if real and equal roots then d is equal to 0 that's why

d= 0

36+8k= 0

k=-36/8

or,, if roots are real and unequal then,,

d>0

36+8k>0

k> -36/8
