Answer :

k = 3

Solution :

Here ,

The given pair of linear equations is ;

kx - y = 2 → kx - y - 2 = 0 -------(1)

6x - 2y = 3 → 6x - 2y - 3 = 0 --------(2)

Now ,

Comparing the equations (1) and (2) with the general linear equations ax + by + c = 0 and a'x + b'y + c' = 0 , we get ;

a = k

a' = 6

b = -1

b' = -2

c = -2

c' = -3

Now ,

a/a' = k/-2 = k/6

b/b' = -1/-2 = 1/2

c/c' = -2/-3 = 2/3

For the given lines to be parallel ,

=> a/a' = b/b' ≠ c/c'

=> k/6 = 1/2 ≠ 2/3

=> k/6 = 1/2

=> k = 6•(1/2)

=> k = 3

Hence , k = 3 .
