• kx + 2y = 5

• 3x + y = 1

______________ [GIVEN]

• We have to find find the value of k if the linear equations have unique solutions.

Unique solutions means

\dfrac{a_{1}}{a_{2}}\dfrac{b_{1}}{b_{2}}

Here

  • a_{1} = k

a_{2} = 3

  • b_{1} = 2

b_{2} = 1

\implies \dfrac{k}{3}\dfrac{2}{1}

Cross-multiply them

\implies k ≠ 3 × 2

\implies k ≠ 6
