During the rainy season, the water droplets act as a prism and the white sunlight passing through them gets retracted into the 7 constituents of light which we call as the 7 colours of rainbow.

Red colour posesses the fastest velocity so we se it at the bottom of rainbow while violet being the slowest is seen on the top of the rainbow.
