SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The value of p such that the quadratic equation

 \sf{2 {x}^{2}  - px + 8 = 0}

has equal roots

EVALUATION

Here the given Quadratic equation is

 \sf{2 {x}^{2}  - px + 8 = 0}

Since the two roots are equal

∴ Discriminant = 0

 \sf{ \implies \:  {( - p)}^{2} - 4 \times 2 \times 8 = 0 }

 \sf{ \implies \:  {p}^{2} - 64 =0  }

 \sf{ \implies \:  {p}^{2}  =  64   }

 \sf{ \implies \:  p =    \pm \: 8   }

Hence the required value of p is + 8 or - 8
