In my opinion the word for is neither present nor past.

It depends on the statement to make it that way.

If in a sentence the word "for" is used to indicate or show the present scenario then in that case we can say that it is used in present tense.

But on the other hand, when the same word "for" is used to indicate or show a sentence showing past action or things ,then in that case we can say that it is used in Past Tense.

Explanation:

For example:-

Sentence giving past sense.

I’ve been waiting for 20 minutes.

Sentence giving present sense.

Qwerty, this present is for you.

Uses of the word "for" :-

1)as a preposition (followed by a noun):

Eg:- I bought some flowers for Chloe.

Wait there for a while.

2) as a conjunction (connecting two clauses):

Eg:- I told her to leave, for I was very tired.
