new force between them = F/16

your complete question is ---> Two charges equal in magnitude and opposite in polarity are placed at a certain distance apart and force acting between them is F. If 75% charge of one is transferred to another, then the force between the charges becomes...

let magnitude of each charge is q. and seperation between charges is r.

then, F = kq²/r² .......(1)

now 75% of charge of one is transferred to another.

if one having charge -q transfers 75% charge to the other.

[ note : charge transfer is nothing but electron transfer. ]

then, final charge on first = -q + 0.75q = -0.25q

final charge on 2nd = +q - 0.75q = = +0.25q

now new force between them, F = k(0.25q)²/r²

= kq²/16r²

from equation (1),

= F/16

hence, new force becomes 1/16 time of initial.

Q. -Q. .................F

-75%. -75%

Q/4. -Q/4. ..............F'

F/F' = Q × -Q. /.

(Q/4×-Q/4)

F/F'=16

F'=F/16
