For mass m1

newton 2nd law

F=m1a1

5=m1×10

m1=21kg

For mass m2

F=m2a2

5=m2×20

m2=41kg

if tied together

Total mass =m1+m2=21+41=43kg

Now

F=MTQT

aT=mT5=35×4=320m/s2

According to the second law of motion,

  • \sf F = m_1 a_1

  • \sf 5 = m_1 × 10

  • \sf m_1 = \dfrac{5}{10}

  • \sf m_1 = 0.5 \; kg

Now, \sf F = m_2 a_2

  • \sf 5 = m_2 × 20

  • \sf m_2 = \dfrac{5}{20}

  • \sf m_2 = 0.25 \; kg

When tied together,

  • \sf F = [ \; m_1 + m_2 \; ] \; a_T

  • \sf 5 = [ \; 0.5 + 0.25 \; ] \; a_T

  • \sf a_T = \dfrac{5}{0.75}

  • \sf a_T = 6.66 \; m/s^2

Therefore, the acceleration it would give when tied together is \sf 6.66 m/s^2.
