Force of action and reaction have same magnitude and opposite direction

Newton's third law of motion states, For every force of action, there's an equal and opposite force of reaction.

However, They don't cancel each other because they act on different bodies.

Examples :

  1. We are able to walk because of the action - reaction pair.
  2. When a ball is thrown onto the wall, it comes back due to action - reaction pair.

More information :

Newton's first law defines the inertia. It states that, A body continues to be in state of rest or motion until an external force acts on it.

Newton's second law gives measure of force. The rate of change in momentum is directly proportional to the applied force. F = ma
