The equation of line of action is 2y - x = 0.

Explanation:

  • The magnitudes of forces are 1N and 2N.
  • They act along x = 0 (y-axis) and y = 0 (x-axis). (refer the figure).
  • So, their resultant R would be passed through origin along the line y = mx. This will be line of action.
  • Also, we can understand the coordinate of R will be (2,1) (refer the figure).
  • Since, their resultant would be passed through y = mx
  • Here, m is the slope of line y = mx.

        slope = tan\theta

R(2,1) will satisfy the equation y = mx. Because, R lies on it.

Therefore; put x = 2 and y = 1 in y = mx

  • 2 = m\times 1

       m = \dfrac{1}{2}

Hence; the equation of line of action will be represented by equation;

  • y = \dfrac{1}{2} x

      2y - x = 0

Thus, the equation of line of action is 2y - x = 0.
