FORCES OF NATURE IN LITERATURE: WIND AND RAIN:
- Nature is one of the universe's most powerful and mysterious forces, and it has a large influence on man. .
- It rules over the universe like a monarch, and man cannot escape nature's influence; he is influenced by both nature and culture. Nature is the genuine and original source of happiness for man. In the lovely companionship of nature, he forgets all his unavoidable and terrible circumstances.
- Literature too, incorporates nature to draw out emotions in the reader.
- Rain is often compared to a sad emotion. It is commonly used as a metaphor to describe the crying action. The atmosphere of a rainy day is chaotic and disturbing with thunder and lightning in the sky. The imagery of rain is used to portray a gloomy and depressing setting for the reader. It often is used as a backdrop for writing about negative situations.
- Wind is used to signify a spectrum of emotion. Frantic situations are often written with describing the wind to intensify the environment. The whistle of the wind is used to incorporate horror in the writing. The feeling of wind is compared to a presence of supernatural entities various times in classic literature works. Overall, it has become a symbol of instability in world of literature.
