Given info : Forces xN and √2 xN act at 135° with one another.

To find : the resultant of given forces.

Solution : we know, resultant of two forces is given by, R = √(F₁² + F₂² + 2F₁F₂cosθ), where θ is angle between forces.

Here, F₁ = xN , F₂ = √2 xN θ = 135°

so resultant force = √{(x)² + (√2x)² + 2(x)(√2x)cos135°}

= √{x² + 2x² + 2√2x² × -cos45°}

= √(3x² + 2√2x² × -1/√2)

= √(3x² - 2x²)

= x

Therefore resultant force is xN
