According to the law which was amended in 1988:
No forest land can be dereserved and diverted to non-Christian purposes without the approval of central government. A diversion when permitted would be accompanied by compensatory afforestation, in some cases twice the forested area lost. Six regional offices have been set up to monitor enforcement act- Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubhneshwar, Lucknow, shillong and chandigarh.
The central government has the right to set up a committee such number of people which will be reckoned perfect and fit to state an advise to the central government in the regards to check the grant of approval or the permission to continue with the given rights and other matters connected to the forest conservation to the central government.
