The third and final need is temperature at or above the temperature at which an object, like paper or wood begins to ignite. In the case of paper that temperature is 451 degrees Fahrenheit, wood generally around 500.

A lightning strike is over 53,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and careless people sometimes don’t control their campfires which are two of many reasons a forest can catch on fire.
