They maintain the level of temperature in atmosphere.They also help to maintain the level of other gases in atmosphere and thus reducing the chance of turning into acid rain.

In terms of soil, they prevent the soil erosion by binding it from their extensively developed root system and replenish the soil nutrients. The old parts of trees serve as good manure for soil.

Forests provide natural filtration of water. They help in water cycle and helps to keep a balance between environment and water bodies.
