major decisions should be taken by elected representative if the power is with any person they might misuse the power

Ex:In Pakistan general pervez Musharraf not had any power to take any decisions it was in the hands of military coup or commanders

Major decisions taken by elected leaders

In October 1999, General Parvez Musharraf led a military coup.

He overthrew the democratically elected government.

He declared himself the ‘Chief Executive’ of the country.

Later he changed his designation to president.

In 2002, he held a referendum that granted him a five year extension.

Pakistani media, human rights organisations and democracy activists said that the referendum was based on malpractices and fraud.

In August 2002, he issued a ‘Legal Framework Order’ that amended the constitution of Pakistan.

According to this order, the President can dismiss the national or provincial assemblies.

After passing this law, elections were held to national and state assemblies.

After Pakistan has had elections, elected representatives have some powers.

Final power rests with military officers and General Musharraf himself.

From the above points, we see that government was elected by people but elective representatives did not have real power. This gives us the first feature:

In a democracy the final decision making power must rest with those elected by the people
