Indirect/Reported Speech is speech being said to a third person/narrating what was said to a third person.

For example:

She said,"I have a match tomorrow." (Direct)

She said that she has a match the next day. (Indirect/Reported)

Here, when converting into indirect/reported speech, the sentence changes according to its tense form. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'tomorrow' will change to 'the next day', 'this' changes to 'that' and many other words will have to be made.

The bearded man asked for forgiveness when he arrived.

Hope it helps :)
