Let the number be x.

According to the condition given in the question

Twice the number = 2x

Linear equation  \implies 2x + 5 = 11

Required Linear Equation is 2x +5 = 11

Extra :

2x + 5 = 11

 \implies 2x = 11 - 5

 \implies 2x = 6

 \implies x = 6/2

 \implies x = 3

The assumed number is 3.
