Given : Four times a number increased by 8 equals 24.

To Find :  Form an equation and solve using trial and error method

Solution:

Four times a number increased by 8 equals 24.

Let say number is x

Then

4x  + 8  = 24

Using hit and trial

Let say x = 2

=> 4(2) + 8  = 16 ≠  24

Let say x = 3

=> 4(3) + 8  = 20 ≠  24

Let say x = 4

=> 4(4) +  8 = 24  = 24

Hence number is 4.

4x  + 8  = 24

=> 4x = 24 - 8

=> 4x = 16

=> x = 16/4

=> x = 4
