Answer:

gets there is your answer.

Step-by-step explanation:

x-y =26

x = 3y

putting x in 1st eq.

3y-y = 26

2y =26

y = 13

and putting y =13

x-13=26

x = 39

Answer:

x = 39 , and y = 13

Step-by-step explanation:

Let one number be x and the other number be y .

Case - I

x - y = 26 ..... (1) [ This can also be written as :- x + y = 24 ]

Case - II

3y = x ..... (2)

Now , by substituting the value of 'x' in equation (1) , we get

3y - y = 26

=> 2y = 26

=> y = 13 .

Now , by putting the value of 'y' in equation (1) , we get

x - y = 24

=> x - 13 = 24

=> x = 39 .

Therefore ,

x = 36 , and y = 12
