Subà Encroachment of footpath.

Respected sir,
Through your esteemed newspaper I want to draw attention of concerned authorities towards problem of encroachment of footpaths. I am president of RWA – kailashpur and fighting with this problem for last two years.
This problem is growing rapidly in all parts of the city. One can see vendors and hawkers on footpaths especially near metro stations, bus stands and market areas. This compels the pedestrians to move on the roads. Roads are already congested. During office hours this creates a big problem. It slows down the speed of traffic and sometimes causes jams .Many accidents also happen due to this.
There are many reports that these encroaches bribe the beat constable and employees of Municipal Corporation. In market areas they also pay shop owners to lay their articles in front of shops. This nexus makes them fearless. But main sufferer is the common man, who can’t fight with them.
We have written many letters to the concerned department but in vain. All our requests are falling on deaf ears. You are our last ray of hope. I expect that you will understand the gravity of the problem. Kindly provide some space in your newspaper.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely
Sohan Singh

Answer:

To,

The Municipal Commissioner,

Sir,

I solicit your help over blatant and rampant encroachments of pavements in our locality.

There has been a kabadi shop opposite our house that has been operating from a small tent. All his paraphernalia and junk lies scattered on the road as well as pavement from one end to the other. This creates obstructions in the flow of traffic.

Repeated complaints to local authorities have fetched no result as he enjoys enough clout with the police as well as the local civic authorities. This has encouraged many other shops to crop up on the pavements it. Now vendors have come to occupy the whole of pavements so much so that there is no space left for street walkers any longer.

Apart from causing traffic disruptions, it causes great discomfort to women, men and children. It has also given rise to profuse noise pollution, littering and offensive elements frequenting these shops. They pay utmost disregard to the rule of law and the whole system seems to be tottering at their will.

Kindly help us by providing open pavements lawful and restore the rights of citizens. Timely action is required against those who flout rules and cause distress to the people at large. Your prompt interference and proper instructions to field-check inspectors can only salvage the situation.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Yours faithfully,
