The formation of Indian constitution was not different that of South Africa. It was drawn under very difficult circumstances. The arguments are as follows.
1) India is a huge and a very diverse country and making a Constitution for any country like India was a very difficult task. The Constituent Assembly had to ensure accommodation of diverse interests through their representation and power sharing.
2) The country was divided on the basis of religious differences and it was an extremely traumatic experience for the people of India. The partition had brought about the problem of religious minorities. The rights and dignity of religious minorities had to be preserved properly. Hence it was not easy to make a constitution to be followed by everybody.
3) The British Rulers had left it to the Rulers of the princely States to decide whether to merge with India or with Pakistan or remain independent. Many rulers wanted to be independent. The fate of the Princely States also had to be decided with regard to their merger. This was a major problem.
4) The future of the nation did not look very secure at that time. the makers of the constitution were had anxieties about the present and the future of the country.
5) The debate was also going on that the country should adopt Parliamentary form of Government or Presidential form of Government.
