Formation of oxide ion is less exothermic compared to sulphide ion

Electron gain enthalpy for O is negative (exothermic ) because oxygen being an electronegative atom can easily accept the electron.

But gaining one more electron(to form O^2-) will mean much more stability , so we normally expect it to be an exothermic reaction.

But its not same with Sulphur
