A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.

When a light passes through a rain drop then it goes refraction and then reflection. After getting reflection it undergoes total internal reflection. After it again refraction and came out of the rain drop by splitting white light into seven colours namely;
Violet
Indigo
Blue
Green
Yellow
Orange and
Red.
When these colors reaches the eye of observer or man he/she saw a rainbow. This is the formation of Rainbow.
