Given: (a+b) X (a+c), (a-b) X (a-c), (a+b) X (a-c)

To find: Formulas for the above problems.

Solution:

  • To find the formulas for the above sums we need to multiply the to get formula.
  • So taking first one,

              (a+b) X (a+c)

  • Multiplying it, we get
  • a² + ac +ab + bc
  • taking common a from ab and ac

        a² + a(b+c) + bc

  • For second sum,

         (a-b) X (a-c)

  • Multiplying it, we get
  • a² - ac - ab + bc
  • taking common a from ab and ac

        a² - a(b+c) + bc

  • For third sum,

          (a+b) X (a-c)

  • Multiplying it, we get
  • a² - ac + ab - bc
  • taking common a from ab and ac

        a² + a(b - c) -  bc

Answer:

  • (a+b) X (a+c) =  a² + a(b+c) + bc
  • (a-b) X (a-c) =  a² - a(b+c) + bc
  • (a+b) X (a-c) =  a² + a(b - c) -  bc
