Explanation:

On addition of a non-volatile solute the freezing point of the solvent will decrease this is known as freezing point depression.

The formula for freezing point depression is as follows.

        \Delta T_{f} = T_{f(solvent)}-T_{f(solution)} = K_{f} \times m

where,  

                  T_{f(solvent)} = freezing point of solvent

                  T_{f(solution)} = freezing point of solution

                       K_{f} = freezing point depression constant

                     m = molality
