(a) Let the number be x. Then ,

46 more than x , so

46 + x = 13

= x = 13 - 46

= x = - 33

(b) Let the numbers be x. Then,

First number = x

Second number = ( x + 2 )

Third number = ( x + 4 )

AND,

x + ( x + 2 ) + ( x + 4 ) = 33

= 3x + 6 = 33

= 3x = 33 - 6

= x = 27 / 3 = 9

So, First number = x = 9

Second number = ( x + 2 ) = 11

Third number = ( x + 4 ) = 13
