Fossil fuels are indeed a boon. They are make up the foundation of the world's energy resources. Fossil fuels have wide ranging necessities - (a) they are still used in "chulhas" in some rural areas for cooking (b) they are used for industrial purposes (c) iron smiths, blacksmiths & goldsmiths still use coal for their jobs- and so on. Even after the introduction of electric induction ovens, most Indian urban families still use LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) stoves for cooking. In short, India is still glued to the traditional uses of fossil fuels, even after the discovery of various alternative forms of energy. If fossil fuels hadn't existed, life would have been difficult to survive.
